What is depression?
We believe depression is more than just sadness or fatigue. It reflects deeper disruptions in emotional regulation, thought patterns, and how we relate to ourselves and others.
At Tresna Psychiatry, we take a whole-person approach that goes beyond symptom relief to address the root causes of depression.
Our clinicians use personalized therapy, emotional processing techniques, and integrative tools to help clients find clarity, regain momentum, and reconnect with meaning.
When Can Depression Become A Problem?
It’s normal to feel low from time to time, especially after a stressful event or loss. But if feelings of hopelessness, emptiness, or fatigue persist and start interfering with your daily life, it may be more than a passing phase.
Depression can show up in many forms, including irritability, social withdrawal, changes in appetite or sleep, or a loss of interest in things you once enjoyed. If these symptoms linger, support can make a real difference
What Are the Types of Depression?
Major Depressive Disorder
Persistent low mood, lack of interest in activities, changes in sleep or appetite, and difficulty concentrating or functioning.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
Chronic symptoms of depression that are less severe but long-lasting, often stretching over two years or more.
Bipolar Depression
Periods of depression alternating with episodes of mania or hypomania. Treated differently from unipolar depression.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Depressive symptoms that occur seasonally, usually in the fall and winter when there is less natural light.
Postpartum Depression
A form of depression that affects some women after childbirth, involving mood swings, anxiety, and overwhelming fatigue.
How is depression diagnosed?
Depression is diagnosed through a clinical evaluation that includes a discussion of your emotional history, symptoms, and how they affect your daily life. There’s no single test for depression. Diagnosis is based on patterns, severity, and how long symptoms have been present. We also evaluate for co-occurring issues like anxiety, trauma, or medical conditions that may impact your mood.
