What is a mood disorder?
Mood disorders can deeply affect how you think, feel, and function. Our psychotherapy services offer a safe and structured environment for self-reflection, emotional processing, and targeted support. Whether you’re facing depression, bipolar disorder, or emotional ups and downs that disrupt daily life, our personalized care helps you move toward greater balance and stability.
When does a mood issue become a problem?
Feeling sad or low at times is part of being human, but persistent emotional distress that interferes with your ability to function may indicate a mood disorder. If your symptoms last for weeks or months, disrupt your relationships, or impair your ability to work, concentrate, or take care of yourself, it’s time to seek help. Early intervention can make a profound difference in long-term outcomes.
What are Common Mood Disorders ?
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Characterized by prolonged periods of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities. People may experience changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
A chronic form of depression lasting two years or more, where symptoms may be less severe but are long-lasting and impact daily life.
Bipolar I Disorder
Involves mood episodes that range from manic highs to depressive lows. Manic episodes may include elevated mood, high energy, impulsivity, or grandiosity.
Bipolar II Disorder
Defined by depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, which are less severe than full manic episodes but still cause noticeable changes in energy and behavior.
Cyclothymic Disorder
A milder form of bipolar disorder marked by cycles of hypomanic and depressive symptoms that don’t meet full diagnostic criteria but still cause disruption.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Depression that occurs during specific times of year, most commonly in the winter months when daylight is reduced.
How are mood disorders diagnosed?
Mood disorders are diagnosed through a comprehensive clinical evaluation, including detailed history-taking, psychological assessments, and observation. Our clinicians look at the frequency, duration, and intensity of symptoms, as well as the impact on daily life. There are no lab tests for mood disorders, but physical conditions are ruled out before diagnosis to ensure an accurate treatment plan.

- Changes in sleep or appetite
