What is ADHD?
We believe ADHD is more than distraction or restlessness. It’s a unique way of processing the world.
At Tresna Psychiatry, we offer a compassionate, evidence-based approach to ADHD that looks beyond symptoms to understand each person’s strengths, challenges, and goals.
Our team integrates psychotherapy, executive functioning support, and personalized treatment strategies to help clients thrive in daily life, relationships, and work.
When Is ADHD A Problem?
Everyone gets distracted or forgetful from time to time. But when inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity begin to interfere with your ability to function at school, work, or home, it may be more than just being scattered.
ADHD can present in childhood or adulthood, and it often shows up in subtle ways like chronic procrastination, emotional overwhelm, or difficulty managing time. If these patterns feel disruptive, it’s worth seeking support.
What are the different Types of ADHD?
Inattentive Type ADHD
Characterized by distractibility, disorganization, forgetfulness, and difficulty following through on tasks.
Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD
Marked by excessive movement, restlessness, talking over others, and acting without thinking.
Combined ADHD
Includes a mix of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.
How Is ADHD Diagnosed?
ADHD is diagnosed through a thorough clinical assessment that includes interviews, behavior screening, and medical history. There is no single test for ADHD. Diagnosis involves identifying patterns of symptoms, their severity, and their impact on functioning across settings. We also screen for related conditions such as anxiety, depression, and learning differences, which often co-occur with ADHD.
What are the Symptoms of ADHD?
Symptoms can vary but often include:
- Trouble staying focused or paying attention
- Difficulty organizing or completing tasks
- Frequent procrastination or forgetfulness
- Fidgeting or restlessness
- Interrupting others or talking excessively
