Medication Management

Medication management at Tresna Psychiatry offers thoughtful, personalized care that supports your mental health goals with safety, precision, and compassion

Understanding Medication Management

At Tresna Psychiatry, our medication management approach goes beyond symptom control to support your overall well-being. We work collaboratively to find medications that align with your mental health goals while respecting your identity, values, and quality of life. Treatment is personalized to consider how medications impact not only your mind, but also your relationships, work, and sense of self.

About Medication Management

We understand that navigating psychiatric medication can be complex. Our clinicians provide thoughtful, evidence-based medication management designed to support your mental health with care, expertise, and attentiveness. Whether you are being treated for depression, anxiety, ADHD, or another mental health concern, medication may be used as one part of a personalized care plan, in combination with talk therapy and holistic wellness practices.

Our Philosophy

Medication is a tool, one that, when used correctly and thoughtfully, can significantly improve quality of life. At Tresna, we emphasize the importance of intentional prescribing, guided by clinical expertise and aligned with each individual’s mental health goals. Medications are never prescribed reflexively or indefinitely without review. Instead, our team works collaboratively with you to determine whether and when medication is appropriate, and how it integrates into your broader care strategy.

What Types of Medication Require Management?

ADHD Medication
Stimulants and non-stimulant ADHD medications require cardiac monitoring, growth tracking in children, and careful titration to balance effectiveness with side effects
Antidepressants
SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, and MAOIs require careful monitoring for effectiveness, side effects, and potential interactions. These medications often take weeks to show full effects and may need dosage adjustments
Anti-Anxiety Medications
Benzodiazepines and other anxiety medications require careful monitoring for dependency potential, tolerance development, and safe tapering protocols when discontinuation is needed
Antipsychotic Medication
Both typical and atypical antipsychotics require monitoring for metabolic side effects, movement disorders, and potential cardiac complications.

Mood Stabilizers
Lithium, anticonvulsants (lamotrigine, valproate), and atypical antipsychotics require regular blood level monitoring and medical supervision due to potential serious side effects affecting kidneys, liver, and metabolism
Sleep Medications
Medications are selected based on your specific symptom patterns, severity, and the particular aspects of your condition that most impact your daily functioning
Specialty Medications

Newer treatments like ketamine, TMS protocols, and other innovative psychiatric medications require specialized knowledge and close monitoring

Your answers to

popular questions

Why is medication therapy management essential?

Medication is never prescribed unless it is truly needed. Our team takes time to understand each patient’s emotional, psychological, and life context before making any treatment decisions. While therapy, meditation, and other holistic approaches are often effective on their own, in some cases a carefully selected medication can enhance the healing process and accelerate recovery. If medication is recommended, it is always part of a broader, individualized plan, and tapering is considered once the patient has developed the emotional resilience and tools to move forward without it. Every treatment plan is guided by clinical insight, compassion, and respect for the individual.

Who can benefit from medication therapy management?

Individuals who are actively working through emotional and psychological challenges may find that a carefully chosen medication provides the extra support needed to move forward. Because each person’s struggles are unique, treatment at Tresna Psychiatry is highly personalized and tailored to your specific experiences and needs.

How do I know if I need psychiatric medication management?

If you've been actively working on your mental and emotional health but still feel stuck, medication may offer the extra support needed to make meaningful progress. At Tresna Psychiatry, experienced providers guide you through when and how medication can be a helpful part of your treatment, always with a focus on timing, effectiveness, and your overall well-being.

How long does medication management take?

The length of treatment varies based on your individual condition and the specific approach we take. At Tresna Psychiatry, our priority is always to strengthen your emotional and psychological well-being. Medication may be used as a tool to support this process, helping to manage conditions like depression, anxiety, and mood disorders more effectively and efficiently.

Are there potential side effects from psychiatric medications?

Yes, side effects are possible with any medication. At Tresna Psychiatry, we take a proactive approach by educating you about potential risks, monitoring your response closely, and adjusting your treatment as needed. For certain medications, we also use lab testing to ensure safety. Our philosophy is to use the lowest effective dose and prioritize your comfort and well-being throughout the process.

Can I stop taking medications once my symptoms improve?

Yes, that is often the goal. At Tresna Psychiatry, we focus on helping you build lasting emotional and psychological strength. If medication is no longer needed, we will work with you to safely taper off, always prioritizing your long-term well-being and recovery.

What is the most common source of medication errors?

Medication errors often happen when there is a lack of regular follow-up or when treatment becomes automatic rather than intentional. At Tresna Psychiatry, every prescription is carefully considered based on your unique psychological and emotional needs. We never prescribe reflexively. Instead, we take the time to understand your progress, monitor your response, and adjust medications thoughtfully to ensure they continue to support your growth and well-being.

Is it worth taking psychiatric medication management?

Medication can be a valuable tool in supporting your mental health, especially when combined with psychotherapy and personal growth. At Tresna Psychiatry, we only recommend medication when it’s truly needed and always use the lowest effective dose. If you prefer to focus on therapy alone, we fully support that path. For those open to medication, we view it as one part of a larger healing process and taper it when you're emotionally and psychologically ready. Your treatment is always guided by what best supports your long-term well-being.
